About the artist
New York-based artist Kent Henricksen is best known for embroidered paintings, threaded drawings, ceramic sculptures, and faux period room-style installations that refer to historical narratives and decorative motifs while commenting on societal issues of today. Kent Hendricksen's work has been included in museum exhibitions such as “Wayward We Hunt” (solo), Bass Museum of Art, Miami Beach; “The Gold Standard” and “Greater New York 2005” at MoMA PS1, New York; “Pricked: Extreme Embroidery,” Museum of Art and Design, New York; and “ARS 06,” Museum of Contemporary Art KIASMA, Helsinki, Finland. He has shown internationally at galleries including Kasmin Gallery, New York; John Connelly Presents, New York; Hiromi Yoshii, Tokyo; Arario Gallery, Seoul; Galleria Glance, Torino; and Gerhardsen Gerner, Berlin. He is the recipient of numerous awards such as the Acadia Summer Arts Program, NYFA, and finalist for Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award. Residencies include Wave Hill, The Bronx; and LES Studio Program at Artist Alliance, New York. His work is in the permanent collections of the Bass Museum of Art, Brooklyn Museum, Harvard University Fogg Museum, and Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Smithsonian Institution.
